The Finnish Transport Agency and Turku Repair Yard Ltd have signed a contract on the construction of ILS designed self-propelled removable icebreaking bow. ILS developed the concept as a partner in the EU CEF funded Winter Navigation Motorways of the Sea II (WINMOS II) Action, which aims to ensure safe and reliable winter traffic in a cost efficient way by developing the winter navigation system and ensuring sufficient icebreaking capacity.
Last week ILS was contracted by Turku Repair Yard Ltd to carry out the classification design of the removable bow. This commission is the ILS project number 999.
Turku, Finland based ship owner Alfons Håkans AS was earlier awarded by the Finnish Transport Agency a 10-year contract to conduct inland waterway icebreaking in Lake Saimaa area with its tugboat Calypso and the removable bow.
