Ship Technical Solutions for Environment Protection's Needs
We have a long experience in designing different kinds of environment protection vessels.
One of the tasks of our early years was designing the conversion of the Finnish oil recovery vessel M/S Hylje. The ship was modified as a modern, active oil recovery vessel. This project started our co-operation with Finland's Ministry of the Environment, Finnish Environment Institute and private Finnish oil recovery equipment developers.
The magnitude of oil transport on the Gulf of Finland started to increase rapidly in the mid-1990's. Demands to grow the number of most modern environment protection vessels in the neighboring countries grew. After that we have provided ship technical knowledge for many Finnish Environment Institute's projects and R & D activities concerning oil and chemical recovery, both in ice and open sea conditions.
The sister ships, Finnish M/S Seili and Estonian M/S EVA-316, were both converted and equipped for oil and chemical recovery duties in the early 2000's. We designed their conversions. Also we made the project design of a multipurpose icebreaker which would serve also as an environment protection vessel.
The latest environment protection vessel of our design is YAG Louhi, which was built at the Uki Workboat Shipyard, Finland, in 2010.

Below: ILS Ltd, Akateemiset Konsultit Oy and Finnish Environment Institute have developed a wave damping oil collection channel, which enables oil recovery also in stormy weather conditions. In the video, the channel is being tested onboard M/S Louhi in September, 2011.
