Self-propelled icebreaker bow launched

The world´s first self-propelled removable icebreaker bow was launched on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Turku Repair Yard Ltd, Naantali, Finland. The outfitting work of the bow will continue at the yard, and required modifications to the pusher tug, Alfons Håkans AS owned “Calypso”, will be conducted. The bow and the pusher will then be connected for sea trials. The combination will get to work in Saimaa Lake area this upcoming winter. ILS developed the concept as a partner in the EU CEF funded Winter Navigation Motorways of the Sea II (WINMOS II) Action, and also conducted the basic design of the bow.
